He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
