He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
