He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him thou attendest 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
