He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
