He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to a rich man, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
