He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
