He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
