He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
