He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
