He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
