He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
