He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
