He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
