He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 For him who does not care, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and purified. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
