He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to a rich man, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
