He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
