He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
