He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him you attend; 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And hath fear, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
