He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 you attended to him, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 On honoured leaves 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
