He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
