In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
