He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
