He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
