He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
