He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
