The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do those not think that they shall be raised up 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 The day on which men shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 No! Indeed, the record of the wicked is in sijjeen. 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 It is [their destination recorded in] a register inscribed. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!" 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 No indeed; the book of the pious is in Illiyun; 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 It is a Book inscribed, 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 On couches, gazing, 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 Blended with the water of Tasnim, (heights ultimate of evolution), 27 a fountain at which do drink those brought nigh. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 and, on returning to their people, boast about what they had done. 31 And when they saw them, they said: "Verily! These have indeed gone astray!" 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
