The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe to the defrauders, 1 who, when people measure for them, take full measure, 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 What! Do they not expect that they will be raised? 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 And what will make you know what Sijjin is? 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Who deny the Day of Recompense. 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When Our revelations are recited before him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 Then they shall roast in Hell, 16 It will then be said, “This is what you used to deny.” 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 a written record, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 Reclining on couches, looking on. 23 Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 its seal is musk, for this let the competitors compete; 26 a wine whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 Wherefore Today, those who believed at the infidels are laughing, 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
