The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe to the diminishers, 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 for a great Day, 5 The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds? 6 Woe to them! Let them know that the records of the sinner's deeds are in Sijin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 None denies it but the sinful transgressors. 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 A book inscribed, 20 Which is witnessed by the close ones. 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 On adorned couches, observing. 23 Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray. 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 But this Day (the Day of Resurrection) those who believe will laugh at the disbelievers 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
