The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Indeed he used to rejoice in his home. 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
