The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must; 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
