The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should; 2 when earth is stretched out 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But as for him whose record shall be given to him behind his back; 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
