Al-Inshiqaaq
The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
25 verses, revealed in Mecca after Shattering (Al-Infitaar) before The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When heaven is rent asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 Soon an easy account will be taken from him. 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 He will invoke (his) destruction, 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they do not believe 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Yea those who disbelieve belie. 22 And Allah knows best what they hide, 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 unless it be such [of them] as [repent, and] attain to faith, and do good works; for theirs shall be a reward unending! 25
