The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 when earth is stretched out 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed! 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the twilight glow 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And that, when the Qur'an is read unto them, they prostrate not them-selves! ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending. 25
