The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven is sundered. 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 He shall presently call for death, 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing. 15 I swear by the twilight; 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
