The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 So let man see from what he is created! 5 He is created of water pouring forth, 6 That is issued from between the backs and the ribs. 7 Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able. 8 On the day when all secrets will be made public, 9 He will have no strength or helper. 10 By the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 and by the earth bursting with vegetation; 12 It is surely a decisive utterance; 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 They are cunningly devising, 15 And I (too) will make a scheme. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
