The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the sky, and by the nightly comer! 1 And what could make thee conceive what it is that comes in the night? 2 (It is a nightly radiant star). 3 There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels incharge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.) 4 So let man observe from what he was created. 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Most surely He is able to return him (to life). 8 On the Day when man's deepest secrets shall be put to the test 9 when he will be helpless, with no supporter. 10 By the sky which returns [rain] 11 and the replenishing earth, 12 Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement, 13 it is no merriment. 14 They are devising a guile, 15 And I (too) will make a scheme. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal you gently with them for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
