Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So remind them (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)), you are only a one who reminds. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
