Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
