Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 therein uplifted couches 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
