Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
