Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
