Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 laboring, wornout, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 raised couches, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
