Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 So do they not see the camel how it has been created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
