Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Hath there come unto thee the story of the Enveloping Event? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
