Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 troubled and tired as a result of their deeds in the past. 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a high Garden. 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 and couches raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore remind, you are only a Reminder. 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
