Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Wherein are couches raised 13 Goblets set, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And linen spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
