Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a high Garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 raised couches, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will punish him with direst punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
