Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
