Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 and therefore thy Sustainer let loose upon them a scourge of suffering: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter among My servants 29 enter My Paradise! 30
