Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 and by the passing night, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
