Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
